Yesterday, President Obama gave his farewell address in Chicago, reassuring the American people that eight years ago, we said “Yes, we can.” and now “Yes, we did”. Eight years ago, we welcomed the first African American president in hopes of change and reform. In the past eight years, gay marriage became legal, uninsured rates have dropped, and minimum wage has increased. And now, here comes President Trump. Just saying the words “President Trump” leaves a sour taste in my mouth. If I was told 4-5 years ago that the mean man firing people and blasting random people/ideas on Twitter for no good reason would become the next president of the United States, I would’ve thought you were mentally insane. I can’t even fathom the fact that the name Trump would be among the greats like Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, Kennedy, and Roosevelt. The man who labeled Mexicans as “rapists” and “killers” would become the next president? The one who wanted to build a literal wall like the Great Wall of China to “protect” our nation? The one who wants to “bomb the sh*t” out of ISIS”? The one who believes that a loan of a million dollars is “small”? The one who refuses to admit he’s ever been wrong (even when shown proof), the one who insults women by claiming they were no longer “a 10” and the debate moderator who “had blood coming out of her eyes” and that he would perhaps be dating his daughter if he weren’t his daughter? Yeah… that’s the man who will become the next president of the United States.
